Sailing Just for Fun - High Adventure on a Small Budget
by Stock, A.C. - (aka Charles Stock) (died 2015)
pub. by Minerva Press, London       isbn 1-86106-919-7 - - (was also printed by Sheridan House, Dobbs Ferry, NY in 2002 and Sefarer Books and Rowman & Littlefield all in 2002) - - 238 p., - 3 pages of black and white photos between p.112 and 113 - - 1 map on p.4 - - Appendix One - Sailing 1996 p.323-235 - - Appendix Two - Cost of Sailing 1996 p.236-238
There are 22 chapters of text. The first 12 are how to cruise and
the last 10 describe various sailing Stock did in the Thames estuary area of SE England.
Stock recounts some of his -adventures- sailing in this area. It is revealing how he uses tidal flow to manage his travels. Using the tide is particularly needful for Stock as his boat does not have a motor, just powered by the wind, tide and oar.
He manages to explore some interesting places due to the fact that when his centerboard is up it draws little water, and the bottom of his boat is flat enough to settle comfortably on the muddy bottom when the tide is out.

This is another book I have owned since 2017 that I just got around to reading.
You will learn a lot about sailing a small centerboard cruising boat without a motor,
also how to used tides to your advantage, which is serious business in the British Isles.
