Jim and Molly Moore get a hull and deck Cascade 36, a 36 ft. cruising sloop which they had put together and headed out. (Cascade 36 has LOA 36 ft, LWL 29 ft, Beam 10 ft, Draft 5.5 ft. It displaced 14,000 lbs (not cruising loaded). They put it together and made it very robust.
When done they sailed south from Portland, Oregon, then to Hawaii and around the world.
They decided to brave the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa rather than travel the Red Sea and Mediterranean.
Then sailed up the South Atlantic, then North Atlantic and around to the Cayman Islands, picking up a relative before sailing around the west end of Cuba to Tampa, Florida where they paused.
Later in 1981 traveled through the Panama Canal, to Hawaii, then back to -home- in Portland, Oregon.
Then finally to Hawaii where they settled for a few years.

This book is an excellent read by a very sensible married couple who had a good well traveled circumnavigation.
This book is pepered with good advice, from sailors who give advice from experience.
After they stayed several years in Hawaii, working, they voyaged again and wrote another book - Swan - the second voyage - another excellent read.
