This book is fiction. I picked it up out of boredom and in need of a light read.
It is a -light read-. In fact since it is written with the main action occurring approximately every other chapter (there are 133 short chapters) followed the protagonist female data analyst and -gister- Rachel Sexton through the action parts of this story. For the most part I read the action chapters, skipping most of the -back in Washington, DC- stuff. Rachel Sextons father is a powerful U.S. Senator. She and her father are mostly estranged, which adds to the story. Rachael is pulled out of her normal job, analyzing and making abstracted reports for governmental officials. She is known for her honesty and straight-forwardness. She is called to observe and report on a NASA find in a most secretive manner and things begin to go very strange. Much like other of Dan Brown's work it is detailed and stretches the imagination.
The plot speeds up to a spectacular ending... then goes on for a mildly titulating last few pages, which was probably un-necessary to the story.
If you are really bored and need a light read to distract you, this book may be of help.
Do note that it was first published in 2001. The writing was probably all done before the 9-11 attack, and of course before the political events of the Trump years, and of course this -Time of Covid-. In that it takes one back to an earlier era... written 20 years ago...and it shows the world as it was in the authors mind at that time.
