Pow Wow 2010 at Camp Perry Texas

Camp Perry, Texas
Pow Wow is the most heavily attended event in Rio Grande Council.
It is an event organized by the Order of the Arrow, Wewanoma Lodge 272 - R. Camacho, Lodge Chief.
Members of Crew 583 were some of the many who assisted in putting on the event.
Some members worked at the Webalos village, others worked at Arrow Making and Loom Beading.
Unlike last year, when it was cold, it was sunny and mildly warm (for here).
The daytime high tempreture was 85 degrees, with a morning low of 55 degrees.
Camp space was very tight. Crew 583 shared a satellite camp
far inside Javelina campsite at the northwestern part of Camp Perry, Texas.

After supper, indian dancing convened at the village -
good drumming, and good fire around which to dance.

* Many of the skills taught in the village require the use of a pocket knife.
ALL SCOUTS are required to have their Totin' Chip, and wear GLOVES
whenever they work with their knife.
* PATCHES WILL BE GIVEN OUT AFTER YOUR CAMPSITE IS CLEAR AND INSPECTED.
* Merit Badge participants need to take their completed check-off lists
to Mrs. Heather Blakemore in the Dining Hall,
to receive a blue card (for completed and partial Merit Badges alike)

1st - 4th Grade Girl Scouts & Cub Scouts:
The 1st - 4th Grade Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts are welcomed to spend their day
in the Cub Scout Village located on the parade grounds.
The activities in the Cub Scout Village serve as a fair-type environment
where scouts can rotate around the activities and pick what they would like to do
(although everything is suggested).
There is no schedule for scouts to follow,
they may mosey around and enjoy the native activities.
Where Will This Take Place?
Crafts will be done on the Trading Post porch
BB guns will be at the Rifle Range.
Archery will be at the Archery Range.
The Indian Village is located in the Handicraft area.
5th Grade Girl Scouts & Webelos:
The 5th grade Girl Scouts and Webelos are invited to participate
in the Webelos Village which is located in front of the pool.
This area is limited to the 5th grade Girl Scouts and Webelos,
all other Scouts will be asked to leave.

A BIG THANK YOU to the KITCHEN STAFF for assisting the OA
by preparing all the meals for the weekend.
Thanks to all the Arrowmen who came out to the set-up weekend
and helped set up the Boy Scout Village their help is greatly
appreciated! Also to all of the volunteers who run the events!!

Classes Requiring Signing-Up
I Loom Beading & Arrow making - due to the nature of this event,
this will be limited to sessions, each with a maximum of 25 participants.

A Message from your Lodge Chief,
On behalf of the Wewanoma Lodge 272, I would like to thank
every participant in this year's Pow Wow. This is the largest
event in the Rio Grande Council. Cub Scouts and Weblos get a
first chance to see what Boy Scouts is all about.
I would like to thank all of the staff that gave up their time
to participate and setup the Indian village.
