Venturing Crew 1849 Camping
La Joya Lake - La Joya, TX

8-9-10 June 2012

Friday late afternoon
Crew members met at the Dyer office in McAllen and packed up

Most of those participating

They stopped off to get ice then drove to La Joya Lake, just outside La Joya, TX on the west side of town.
This is a private place and special permission was arranged by a member of the club which operates the site.
Some of the family members of the Crew also went on this camping trip.

Saturday morning
Breakfast included a fire making session.

Sort your fuel. First use little sticks, then larger ones.

Omlets in bags - boiled in a pot of water - easy to prepare - minimum cleanup - tasty too

The canoes were launched and Crew members learned how to rescue from an overturn.

-
The swamped canoe is turned upside down to let the water out.

- -
It is then dragged up across the rescue-ing canoe.

- -
It is then turned upright and returned to the water.

- -
The helpers hold the rescued canoe firmly while those rescued re-enter their canoe.

Rescue completed.

Lunch, followed by a rest period during the mid-day heat.

-
Lunch cooked in foil packets - When its hot a siesta after lunch is good

Some really got into the siesta thing

Others (the young) socialized in the shade. -

Some of the younger members explored after their rest in the shade. Smart folks... took shade with them.
