Hurricane Dolly came ashore on Wednesday, 23 July 2008, just a few miles north of Laguna Station. For a short while it was a Category 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 100 mph. The camp only suffered a little damage, however the town of South Padre Island was not so fortunate. Health and Safety reasons, and general infrastructure repair will cause the camp to be closed for a few weeks.
