Rufine Merget was born in the family home in the town of Lima, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States.

Rufine worked many years in a firm making specialized batteries for such organizations as the US Navy, NASA and Polaroid Corp. She lived in Milwaukee with her husband. He had worked for Schlitz brewery. For most of his life he worked for Kraft foods as a warehouseman.
